Apple has officially launched the iOS 18.2 update for iPhones globally, enhancing its suite of Apple Intelligence features. This update, released on Wednesday, follows the introduction of iOS 18.2 Release Candidate (RC) 2 and brings several innovative functionalities, including Image Playground, Genmoji, and integration with ChatGPT. Additionally, a new visual lookup feature is exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, while Apple’s AI capabilities are being expanded to more languages.

iOS 18.2 Compatible Models

All iPhone models that support the initial iOS 18 update are eligible for the latest iOS 18.2 update. However, the new Apple Intelligence features are restricted to the iPhone 16 lineup, as well as the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max. The update is being rolled out in more English-speaking regions, including Australia, Canada, Ireland, New Zealand, South Africa, and the UK. While the AI suite is available globally on most devices, it will not be accessible in China and the EU until April of next year.

• Image Wand: This function transforms rough sketches into related images within the Notes app and can create visuals based on handwritten or typed text using on-device generative AI models.
• Enhanced Writing Tools: Building on tools introduced in iOS 18.1, the new Describe Your Change option allows users to specify desired changes in their text, alongside existing functionalities like Rewrite and Proofread.
• Visual Intelligence: Exclusive to the iPhone 16 series, this feature acts as a visual lookup tool that provides instant information about objects and places using a new Camera Control button. It can summarize text, translate languages, detect contact information, and even search Google for products.
• ChatGPT Integration: Siri now incorporates OpenAI’s ChatGPT capabilities for more comprehensive responses to user queries. This integration allows Siri to suggest accessing ChatGPT for specific requests and generate content using native writing tools.
